I’m a writer and photographer from Ogden, Utah, based in Aarhus, Denmark. A lifelong student of the wider Islamic World, I’ve covered its span — from North Africa to the Maluku Islands — for a range of publications. Working with Rough Guides, Lonely Planet, Insight Guides and others, I’ve authored and updated more than 20 travel guidebooks, conducting extensive in-country research across Egypt, Oman, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Turkey and Italy. My work has been published in Sidetracked, BBC Travel, Outside, Lonely Planet Magazine, GEOSpecial, Quillette, Gulf Life, Nowhere and National Geographic Traveler, among other outlets. I’ve also earned a Master of Arts in Arab & Islamic Studies from Aarhus University, and have been fortunate enough to host several gallery exhibitions in both Egypt and the United States.
